Now on to the good stuff!
I spent the first 35% of this book pissed because Jacintha was raggedy as hell. Elite was a strong, protective, loving man who showed up for her and for her daughters — even though he wasn’t their biological father. He provided, he loved, he committed, and the one thing he asked for was fidelity. And sis still stepped out on him. Repeatedly. Willingly. Boldly.
Yes, she didn’t know about the vasectomy, but the point remains: the baby wasn’t his.
And then things got worse. When the man she cheated with (Blaze/Henry) beat her and caused her to lose the baby, she turned around and blamed Elite. She had this man ARRESTED. Lied on social media. Tried to manipulate him into another chance by refusing to remove her false allegations unless he took her back.
I had zero sympathy left.
But here’s what made Elite special: despite his own trauma around cheating, his father accidentally killed his mother after discovering her infidelity, he still handled everything with maturity. He took accountability for the areas where he could’ve been a better husband. And he even decided to confront and heal his broken relationship with his father after everything exploded with Jacintha.
That man had GROWTH.
Enter Denali: the around-the-way sweetheart who brings out the best in a man without trying. She made Elite feel safe, seen, and cared for, and she had her own growing to do, learning to stand up for what she wanted in life and relationships. Their connection felt real, steady, and intentional.
And then… that PLOT TWIST.
When I realized that Blaze/Henry — the same man Jacintha cheated with, got pregnant by, and who abused her — was ALSO Denali’s baby daddy?
I gasped out loud.
I was NOT expecting that. The mess wrote itself.
One of my FAVORITE moments?
Elite learning that Denali worked on commission and quietly buying EVERYTHING in the store, then donating it all to a women’s shelter so her commission would go straight to her pockets. Thoughtful, grown, intentional energy.
Elite and Denali’s happy ending was well-deserved. After the chaos Jacintha unleashed, seeing him find peace with someone who truly valued him felt like justice.
This book was messy, emotional, fast-paced, and full of plot twists. A wild ride from start to finish. I’d absolutely recommend it to readers who love DRAMA and don’t mind being emotionally yanked around in the best way.
